Long-form thinking on go-to-market and commercial strategy for datacenter technology.

Momentum is People

When I started Momenthesis, I had a clear vision and a shortlist of people I wanted to work with again—people I kept close for when the time was right.

Patrick Bliemer

Two years in, that time came, and I was thrilled to bring Patrick Bliemer on board. A 30-year IT veteran and one of my former mentors turned friend at Intel, Patrick’s integrity and ability to build high-performing teams and align them with a company’s vision made him an obvious choice.

I’ve seen firsthand what happens when organizations neglect their people: stagnation, high turnover, and a lack of innovation. Teams disengage when they don’t feel heard, valued or understood. Without mentorship and clear communication, even the most talented individuals struggle to connect their efforts to the bigger picture.

I asked Patrick about his approach to mentorship and motivation. He shared a defining moment early in his career:

During his first role as a manager at Intel’s European HQ in Munich, his manager’s approach was intense but balanced with fun. “Every afternoon before we would start our US HQ calls, he’d sit across from me and say, ‘Topic one: this customer. What’s your recommendation?’ I’d present my analysis, and he’d give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down—like a Roman emperor. If he disagreed, he’d ask, ‘What did you miss?’ It was never personal. It was about growth, and he made it engaging.”

Patrick’s gratitude is palpable: “He built me up. In six months, I learned more than in years. He didn’t just push me—he showed me how my work fit into the bigger picture, with rigor and humour.”

“I was significantly more junior compared to my new peers when I got promoted into a global role on Intel’s senior leadership team at Intel’s HQ in the US,” he recalls. “My new manager told me, ‘You may not be there yet, but you’re now in a place where you can unleash your potential. Take what you’ve learned back in Europe and bring it globally.’ He believed in my capabilities and invested in my growth. In our professional lives, we all need someone like that, you just must be lucky enough to end up working for such a leader. In later roles, I always carried this with me and invested into people who showed signs of untapped potential. Paying it forward.

Three Tips for Leaders to Start Today

Patrick’s success stems from three principles every leader can apply:

1. Build Your Own Opinion

“Always form your own opinion about a person,” Patrick advises. “Ignore what others say. Start with a blank canvas.”

2. Invest in Each Person

“Take a vested interest in each person separately,” Patrick says. “Every individual is different. Their motivations are different. You need to invest time to understand where they’re coming from and what their ambitions are”

3. Clarity in Communication

“Be clear,” Patrick stresses. “If people don’t understand company goals or their role, motivation drops. Start with the organization’s strategy. Break it down so everyone knows their part. Celebrate successes and address tough messages when needed. Clarity brings out their best.”

How Momenthesis Can Help

Patrick’s story underscores the power of mentorship and investing in people. At Momenthesis, we help companies create strategic clarity and align teams for success. We believe that when leaders invest in their people, they unlock potential that drives momentum.

One of the tools we use is a 16Personalities workshop, designed to help teams understand their own strengths and each other’s strengths and communication styles, moving from silos to synergy.

Ask yourself: Are you investing in your people, or leaving potential untapped? Momentum isn’t built by tools—it’s built by people. At Momenthesis, we’re here to help you build it.
